Having a baby is such an exciting but anxious time. I mean let’s just take a minute to cover just a “few” of the things that are running through the minds of new parents to be. Worry (am I right?) exhaustion from aches and pains of pregnancy, abundance of love already, curiosity who baby will look like, what the sex of baby will be (for those who kept it a secret) not to mention a gazillion other feelings.
Kathy & Mario came into the studio recently and I knew right away that they were excited but nervous. Wearing a mask I did my best to slow things down, to take the time to explain and let them know I am smiling under my mask lol. I am pretty sure that by now clients can hear the tones and genuine emotion when we chat. Just sucks that they can’t see that smile haaa.
These two were expecting a baby boy when they came in for their maternity session. Baby is finally here and both mom and babe are doing just fine. But let’s get back to this shoot.
We easily found the sweet spot with these two and it started with some togetherness, just being in one another’s arms and tender kisses was all it took to let the nerves go. I’d say they did pretty amazing wouldn’t. you?
If you are thinking of booking a maternity shoot and are curious to know WHEN is a good time? I typically book anytime from 28 weeks onwards. It really depends on how mom is feeling. Hey friends,
Wow…who knew that 2020 was going to turn out like this right? All I can say is I hope you and your family are well and staying safe. What a state the world is in for us and such crazy times. Meanwhile, one of the things keeping me happy these days is YOU. Being able to work again and do what I love, to reconnect and celebrate your milestones is awesome.
We have been working to keep up with all our reschedules, and welcoming new clients and friends to the PKP family too. It’s been amazing. However…it’s left little time for blogging so I apologize for the gap :)

Meet Shannon!
Shannon and I met earlier this year when she came in for her pregnancy announcement portrait session with her whole family. You may remember it HERE. Such a beautiful, fun and innocence about that session that she shared with her son and hubby. We knew however, that we had to do another session just for mom!
For her maternity session we went with some more neutral soft floral accents. Shannon is stunning and the wardrobe we chose complimented her skin tones perfectly and showcased her feminine beautiful baby bump.
Motherhood is beautiful. YOU are beautiful mama…I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many of you amazing, inspiring women. It is such an honour and something that I am grateful to be able to do.
Being a mom of two I get it. Although mine are now teenagers you still don’t forget, empathize and are compassionate with all the things pregnancy brings. So when I say I get it…it’s because I know. During our consultations we get to know each other. The things you are concerned about, like, dislike…and releasing that trust in me to use my creativity and experience to create magical moments for you!
That alone is a big step!
Get to know your photographer. Do your research and most importantly resonate with them. When you are comfortable and allow yourself to enjoy the experience that is where the magic happens…

We have been waiting quite some time to finally announce this amazing news with you all! While we have been in the throws of our busy season over here we are finally getting caught up with posting sessions (I have OCD and post in order lol)
We have already shared a few posts on this amazing shoot that we held back in March but today we are sharing the awesome and humbling news of being published. This was an intense labor of love and one heck of a collaboration with a dozen amazing businesses and sponsors but we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of them. Not to mention our favourite studio space west of PKP…Mint Room Studios in Toronto! My right hand gal and Wedding Florist Extraordinarie Lisa from Aspen Florist was there every step of the way helping to bring this vision to life with her gorgeous fresh flowers and team. We are forever grateful and in awe of how creative she is, not to mention the attention to detail and customer service that she prides herself in. Thank you Lisa…I love you so much girl!
We honoured International Women’s Day this year with elegance and grace with an Ultimate Maternity Event. To celebrate all things motherhood and beauty as every mom to be deserves. This was a once in a lifetime photoshoot for our lucky mom’s to be that was quite the showstopper with an abundance of gorgeous fresh flowers, catering, hair and makeup, wardrobe and gifts for mom to take home. Would you look at these flowers…I can’t tell you how stunning they were and the smell that filled the Ballroom at Mint Room Studios was heavenly! Months after we are still raving about them! Lisa you are AMAZING and so talented. Our mamas and team adored every last detail!

The blessing of Motherhood is something that not all of us get to experience. But that all of us deserve. Some may not wish to be a mother when others are wishing so hard to be one. It may be a touchy subject for some of you but trust me when we say that this post comes with nothing more than love and happiness for each and every one of you.
We welcomed this beautiful excited mom to be into the studio recently. Holy smokes guys…we are so very lucky to work with such amazing beautiful moms to be lately. Not to mention our mamas don’t even realize half the time that they nail their looks and interaction with the camera 100%. I hear so often…I don’t like having my picture taken, or I feel so awkward.
Well mama…I am here to help you. This is part of my job, your experience while in studio is so important to me that I make a point to really get to know you before, during and after our shoot. Tell me what your concerns are, what you love, dislike, wants and hopes are when it comes to your maternity session. Why?…Because I truly believe that the connection and relationships we build in life are ones that should come from the heart. So no matter how we met or what you are doing now means a lot to me to be welcomed into “your” family and life. I really cherish the friendships I have been blessed to have made so far on this journey together.

Full Circle: Oshawa_Maternity_Baby_Photographer_Petra_King_Photography
Throwing it back to 2 years ago when this beautiful mom walked into the studio for her maternity session. We have come full circle now. Shy, quiet and admitting she has no idea what to do. She placed all her trust in me and said let’s do this. ;). As with all my sessions, we get to know you. We chat, we laugh and making you feel comfortable even if we end up chatting longer than expected. She was also one of my first maternity clients in the new studio space.
The above image was one that was in the moment. Often times you’ll find that I get into a zone and on a whim will say k…I have an idea lol. The mood, lighting and calmness of our session called for some texture and grounding. Resulting in this simplistic and natural image.
Mom and Dad came back into studio once the arrival of their first child was born. Sweet Sophie.
And now jumping forward to present day, mom emailed with some amazing news that they were expecting the arrival of their 2nd. This time we had the whole family in and the resulting memories are oh so adorable…wouldn’t you agree?
Stay tuned for their newborn session coming soon! I can’t wait to share it with you.
