Pregnancy Safe Oils: Oshawa Peterborough Couple Maternity Photographer
There has been a huge shift in our lifestyle over the last few years. Even more how we choose to live. From what we eat and where our food comes from, to the products we use on a daily basis. Low Tox living used to have this stigma around it that was “out there” or for the hippies or gypsy’s.
This might not be a popular opinion but I am here to tell you otherwise.
It’s up to us to educate ourselves when it comes to what we use for ourselves and our growing families. This is where Young Living can help. I talk about this company so much and use their products daily because I am passionate about them and I am obsessed with the highest quality they pride themselves in.
When you are expecting, you are aware that everything you use on your body is transferred to your baby. Which is a scary thought but it’s so easy to live a health and happy pregnancy when you know that Young Living helps you to live and feel your best.
Here are a few pregnancy oils that will help to ease some common issues during pregnancy
Heartburn Digize. (this is a life saver for heartburn trust me)
Nausea- Peppermint (one of my fav’s)
Sleep- Lavender (if you know me this is a no brainer)
Energy- Ningxia Red ( antioxidant super fruit drink) our family drinks this daily and it’s delicious with so many health benefits.
Aside from these oils that can help make your pregnancy easier and healthy, Young Living has over 600 health products and Nation Health Products to help support you and your baby.
Young Living has been in business for almost 30 years! Simply amazing and the quality and standards are the highest of any on the market. Our Seed to Seal Promises you that every product is backed by Sourcing, Science and Standards that YL is known for.

3 ways to work with toddlers: Oshawa Maternity & Family Photographer
Anxious mom and dad’s and busy littles is completely normal. When you come into the studio for your session I want you to know that you can trust in me and my expertise. After 18 years I have seen it all and the outcome is always the same thanks to a few things I do.
Concentrate on the family must have shots first
Make sure toddlers and littles are comfortable. Get on their level and include them into what you want them to do.
Convince them that there is a monkey in my camera who loves to eat chips! Haaa…
Sibling shots and family shots are often quick and silly. But these 3 things done at the beginning of your session will almost ALWAYS help to have a smooth and stress free session.
Also…bribery or an iPad come in REALLY handy so we can get shots like this :)
Next up we concentrate on mom. So Dad usually hangs out in studio or takes the littles out so it’s just the one on one time with mama.
And once mama is comfortable and can focus on herself….magic happenes
Experiment to see what works with you. Try something new and let. me know if my process has given you a little edge on a smoother studio workflow!

Growing families and healthy low tox homes: Durham Region Motherhood Studio Photography
First, second or third baby? Regardless, your family is growing and it’s such an exciting time! But with more little ones in the house it opens more doors for the germs to creep in. This month I am focusing on how to keep our homes and more importantly, our familles healthy with my all time favourite: Thieves Household Cleaner.
The importance of using a non toxic product to clean my studio and every surface in my home is huge. It not only kills germs for my family but helps to keep you and your family healthy too.
Thieves Household Cleaner is multi-purpose. I use it in the studio on all surfaces, kitchen, bathroom, floors, mirrors, glass, hardwood and so much more. Super concentrated and smells amazing, all you need is one capful. Add it to a 16oz spray bottle like these and top with water.
It also is a HUGE time saver. This plant based product does all the jobs to disinfect and clean and is baby and pet safe.
No need to wait for the “fragrance to leave a room” floors or surfaces to dry or crack a window because it stinks. This beautiful aroma consists of lemon, cinnamon, rosemary, eucalyptus and clove.
Thieves kills 99.96% of all germs. Giving us all peace of mind for what our moms and unborn children are being exposed to.
Here is a list of some ways to use it:
All Purpose-
1 capful of cleaner
2-3 cups of water
Spray liberally on surfaces & wipe clean
~
Glass & Mirror Cleaner-
3 cups water
1tsp white vinegar
Combine in Glass Spray Bottle
Add 5 drops of fav citrus oil (ie lemon or citrus fresh)
Spray surfaces and wipe clean with lint free cloth
If you are ready to switch over to Thieves and give it a try for you and your family click the link below. It will save you 24% and you’ll get an additional 10% off for being a brand new member. Which by the way mama, is free. Your membership account has so many perks (including earns you points on EVERY) product you purchase. Those points…yep, you can use for future orders.

Tips to soothe nausea during pregnancy: Oshawa GTA Low Tox Motherhood Studio
Let’s talk about Nausea. It affects so many of us at some point or other during pregnancy. IF you are one of the lucky few to not experience it during your pregnancy I bow down to you ;) I can totally remember suffering with it up until 14 -18 weeks.
Here few ways to use essential oils for support with nausea during pregnancy:
-Diffusing or applying topically are the most common ways to find relief. Oils such as peppermint, ginger are great for relief. Digize applied topically gives relief within a matter of minutes (they all do really).
-if using Digize rub on tummy/upper chest area in clockwise direction.
-make peppermint tea. Not a fan of hot drinks right now? That’s ok…try peppermint iced tea
If you suffer from stress related nausea:
There are a few stress supporting oils to consider: lavender, chamomile, black spruce and even orange will help you too.
Of course there are a ton of ways to help support you and your body. Play around with things and see what works for you.
Other natural ways to support and find relief from can look like applying a cold compress to neck and or forehead or even sucking on a ginger chew. Getting some fresh air and staying hydrated. Speaking from experience, try to refrain from lying down right after you eat also helps to avoid heartburn. Avoiding spicy or rich foods and pay attention to strong smells that act as triggers (things like gasoline, strong toxic cleaning products, paint, fish, meat or cheeses etc etc) For me it was chocolate milk and OJ…weird I know lol.
Peppermint and Digize have been my favourite go to’s. Now in full transparency here, I am not pregnant (door closed years ago) but I wish I had these amazing oils and aromatherapy tips back then.
Not everyone will love all of these oils or scents, and that is okay! You need to find what works for you.
If you are new to oils and feeling a little overwhelmed, know that it’s normal. I was there too. I read a TON!
We now have an amazing supportive and generous community to help that is there if you need it. And of course I am here for you when you are ready mama. If you prefer sitting to experience things in person, let’s set a date. Pop by the studio, grab a coffee or tea. Whatever you’d like :)
If you are planning ahead or just getting through the waves of it through the day, I highly recommend to give these a try. I promise your sanity and body will thank you. What do you have to lose?

The Journey to Motherhood: Oshawa Peterborough Maternity Photography
Excitement, anxiousness, scared… just to name a few feelings you go through. Needless to say it’s an emotional roller coaster. Especially if your journey took years to get there or you sadly experienced heartache along the way like I did.
Over the span of my entire career and that’s a very long time let me tell you (17 years and counting) I have had the honour of journeying with every mama that I’ve worked with. From a friendly ear to offering words of advise when asked to watching our friendship grow over the years. Not to mention watching your family as it grows too!
And I get to call this work…how lucky am I?
Thank YOU for trusting me with your most precious milestones.
Wherever you are in your journey or how long it took you to get to where you are today, know that I am always here for you. To lend an ear, to go grab tea/coffee or a bite to eat. I am your Photographer, a Friend and a Mother too. Sometimes you just need a friend who will listen.
Availability for Maternity sessions fills up quickly. If you are expecting or planning to book, please note that we suggest 2-3 months ahead of when you’d like to have your session.

What every expecting parent needs to know when choosing a Photographer
If you’ve booked a Maternity session with us or are thinking about doing so Congratulations and Welcome!
I wanted to share a little blurb with you today about the importance of choosing the right Photographer for you. Our community has an abundance of styles, businesses and various levels of Professionals. It’s important to keep these helpful tips in mind:
Make sure you love your photographer.
I am not talking about just loving their work , I am talking about loving their personality. Do your research, inquire about their reputation, brand, ethics and dive into their testimonials to make sure this is the right fit for you. During your session (maternity, baby and beyond) you will be with your photographer a lot. Sometimes in close proximity. Maternity sessions are intimate at times (think of wardrobe changes, adjusting details to be photo ready and of course there are things about our growing bodies that we aren’t quite comfortable with). All completely normal and I am here to help, and to help you feel comfortable in the process.
Baby sessions are beautiful and at times intimate too, mom, if you are still nursing I want you to know that my home studio is quiet, clean and cozy for you to do so. Relax, I’ve got you mom.
In short, regardless of the session you are coming into the studio for, know that you will end up with beautiful memories and gorgeous photographs for you and your family to love. But if I can leave you with one tip today…love your photographer ;) We LOVE what we do and pour a lot into making sure your experience is everything it should be.
Have a fantastic day and see you soon
