The New Mummy Company: Spotlight on Business

It is with extreme pleasure to announce the next Spotlight on Business feature!  Welcome The New Mummy Company!

Let me tell you a little bit about The New Mummy Company.  Owner, experienced sleep coach, breast feeding adviser, twins baby nurse and doula Maria Robertson is a renowned newborn consultant who has been providing expert babycare advice and practical help to parents of new babies, including twins and triplets, for over twelve years.

Basing herself on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland, Maria rose to become one of best maternity consultants in the UK, and a number of prestigious international positions over the last few years have made her one of the most sought after newborn consultants worldwide.

During her career, Maria has constantly kept herself up-to-date with the latest training and techniques available. She has attended conferences and read numerous scientific papers published on various aspects of baby care – including sleep coaching, breast feeding and multiples.

This has led to her becoming an international authority on postpartum support, including advising parents of newborn babies on ways of establishing sleep and feeding routines. However, Maria’s in-depth knowledge and experience are not the only secrets of her success.  She also has attributes that cannot be taught in the classroom, such as:

  • Her natural ability to inspire confidence in a new mother, and to coach without coming across as overbearing.
  • Her uncanny intuition, which enables her to sense a baby’s needs.
  • Her ability to be pro-active and fix any small problems being experienced by new parents and their newborn baby(ies), be it with feeding, sleeping or routine. And to do so before these problems escalate.

Maria’s presence in the home of a newborn is enriching to any new mother, as well as to all other family members.  It is no coincidence that her delighted clients comment that she left them not only with a contented baby, but also with a contented family.

Due to the overwhelming lack of support available for both newborn multiples and their parents, Maria identified early on in her career the need for a specialist in this area, and her skill set meant that she was highly qualified to deliver a professional newborn consultancy service.  And now she is able to bring her proven specialist postpartum services to parents of twins and multiples in Canada.

Having provided hands-on help and/or advice for over 23 sets of twins, she has experienced everything that multiple care can throw at you. Moreover, she thoroughly enjoys both the challenges and the rewards which she encounters when supporting a family through this special time.

Although Maria, or any member of her team of professional baby care specialists , may only spend a short time with you and your newborn(s), this time will undoubtedly prove to be extremely precious to you and your family. Moreover, the New Mummy Company keep in contact with families they work with, assisting and advising them as their babies go through the key developmental stages.

Parents who have received help from Maria and her colleagues say that they are envied by other parents, as their infants mature into excellent sleepers, great feeders and well-behaved, contented children. And they attribute this success to the sound start in life made possible by The New Mummy Company.

For more information on Mara, her services and fantastic information, check out her website at The New Mummy Company.   Her contact page can be found HERE. If interested or know someone who may be, don't hesitate to drop her a line. She's a wonderful person with a kind heart. She's also been known to be called Maria Poppins!  Too cute!

Babyview 3D Prenatel Imaging Pickering: Spotlight on Business

I am proud to announce the next installment of PKP Spotlight on Business!  A very warm welcome goes out to Babyview.ca. Located in Pickering this wonderful business gives us an insight on what they offer for new parents at this exciting milestone in their lives! 3D Imaging!

Your Name: Cheryl Gerelus

Your Company: BabyView 3D Prenatal Imaging

Your Email: info@babyview.ca

Tell us a bit about yourself and how the idea of BabyView was started?

I have been performing diagnostic ultrasounds since 1990. The first time I saw a 3D baby photo was 9 years ago and I was stunned! I could not believe that the little black and white fetuses I had been assessing all these years looked so real! I was amazed at how developed the features were, even in babies as young as 23weeks. Suddenly, I no longer thought of them as fetuses but as babies, and I became fascinated with the technology that allowed me to observe them in the womb with such incredible detail.

I remember thinking, if I feel this much joy watching a baby that isn’t even mine,  imagine how it would feel for the parents-to-be! Thus, the reason BabyView was “born”

Why is BabyView so much better than other ultrasound locations?

As with any service industry, it is the people providing the service that distinguishes one like business from another. Essentially, the technology and equipment used to produce 3D images is the same from location to location. It is the friendly, personalized service that BabyView provides to every person that walks in the door that puts BabyView miles ahead of the other locations. My team and I love what we do, we have a lot of fun and we all share in the celebration of the parents and their families and friends. BabyView is not a large franchise where moms are just another scan, as I mentioned before, I consider BabyView an extension of myself and I personally oversee every aspect of it.

What is the best part of your job?

It’s really hard to think of what I do as a job! To me a job implies work and very rarely do I associate words such as joy, happiness and excitement with the idea of work. I usually think of BabyView as my “baby”, it was born of me and it’s very much a part of me, my life and the life of my family. What is the best part of BabyView?  Not only am I able to bring inexplicable joy to expectant parents and the families waiting to welcome  their new little baby, but it also provides me with great satisfaction and fulfillment, it gives me a sense of purpose. I am really proud of BabyView !

We have an informative Blog and surprise specials. Join us on Twitter or Facebook (Fan page BabyView 3D Prenatal Imaging (Ultrasound) and be one of the first to hear about news and special promotions.

Ajax,Durham Region,GTA Portrait Photographer:: Being in Business

Let's see a show of "Likes" if you know someone who is a photographer?  I think it's safe to assume that we all know someone who is correct?  In this day in age, anyone can purchase a digital camera as seen "on sale" and adopt the term, yes I am a photographer.  However as much as companies make it more and more accessible for the general public to do so, only a fraction of that actually makes the decision to further their knowledge and new found skill.  This cannot be done overnight.  One must build a solid portfolio before thinking of taking the next big step...starting a business.  The same applies to flash websites and  photography blogs. One must learn and practice before opening up shop.

In the last 5 years I've been in business, I've seen a huge influx of photography businesses arise.  Most are as I started out to be myself, known as MWAC=mom with a camera.  Bearing in mind we all need to start somewhere, the amount of photography websites and blogs are a bit mind boggling.  It's grown overnight and out there online for all to see, while the subject of quality hangs in the balance.  Sure we all grow.  After 5 years of business I am still growing. For that I will always do!  I am constantly looking to steer myself in new directions, challenge myself and grow stronger as a person not just a photographer.  The demand for business IS there, this we know. But as a good friend recently expressed, the demand for quality is on the decline!  WHY?

Why is it that one individual will chance the quality of photographer (A) vs photographer (B)?  Style?  Price?  Location? Convenience?  How is it that we are so picky when it comes to the food we serve at our table for our family, the kind of car we drive and the quality of living we work hard for?  Yet when it comes to preserving the memories of the ones we love MOST, we are brainwashed into thinking that the lowest price is the best!  This my friends, always comes back to kick us in the pants. Quality does matter!  Very much so.  It's not all about providing one with digital images on a CD for $100 ( session fee may or may not be included) because let's face it. Those that choose to purchase these packages are going to share them online to every family and friend they have and then tuck that CD away safely in the back drawer only to collect dust.  These images will be forgotten or pulled out once every few years. Professional portraits and artwork lives and breathes on your walls. It's a daily reminder of  just who you are. What you have been blessed with and are proud of!

Being in business is tough. There is no doubt about it.  I've said it once before, that very few find a balance between home and work. This rings more truer for those that work from home. But I DO love what I do.  I DO work my butt off into the wee hours of the night to strive and provide the best quality that you deserve.  As do all professional photographers.  It is up to you to do your research.  Figure out what works best for you.  Professional photography is not for everyone.  It is an investment.  That said, it is the BEST investment you can make.  After all isn't what's important most to you your family and the memories you will make together?

I'll end with some food for thought...

The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer.  ~Author Unknown

A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.  ~Ansel Adams

Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer.  It makes you a Nikon owner.  ~Author Unknown

Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera. — Yousuf Karsh

Which of the photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow. — Imogen Cunningham

My favorite:  Be yourself, everyone else is taken. ~ Author Unknown

Thank you to all my clients both present and past.  You are the reason why I work so hard.  Just as you love your family, I LOVE mine.  Time is special to all of us and sharing my talent with you to adorn for years to come is what matters most to me.  I look forward to seeing you soon!

Love,

P
