Tips for looking your best for your maternity session: Oshawa Maternity Photographer Petra King Photography
I often get asked a lot of questions outside of our FAQ’s on the website. You know that, it’s ok! I am here to help and guide you and offer my expertise and advice for a stress free experience. For so many women, pregnancy is a time where we feel our most beautiful, feminine selves, but we all want to make sure that we look and feel our best in our maternity portraits. Here are 5 tips to help you do just that.
Time it right…
Scheduling your maternity session in general I suggest anywhere between 28-34 weeks works well. Your belly will be full and you will still be comfortable enough to move. Should you be having multiples, scheduling a month prior is probably best.
Prep your hands…
Your hands will be photographed in as much detail as your belly during your maternity session. A fresh manicure in a neutral shade or just buffed, will help your images look more polished. If you are still wearing your wedding rings, make sure they are clean and sparkle. If swelling has forced you to remove them, don’t try to force them on for your session.
Professional Hair & Makeup…
I highly recommend using a professional hair and make up artist to prepare you for your session. The camera has a tendency to wash you out, so having an expert to add additional contouring, toning and lashes will help your face look flawless. Even if you don’t normally wear a lot of makeup, a light professional application can still give you a natural enhanced look.
For hair, we all know that our hair never looks better than straight from the salon!
We believe in Professional Hair & Makeup so much that we have partnered with our friends at Priceless Beauty to offer you a special discount for your maternity session!
Wardrobe is everything…
Don’t be afraid to show off your changing body! We offer an extensive selection of dresses ranging from SM-2XL for our clients to borrow for their sessions. Dresses that help highlight your bump, curves and flatter you in just the right areas. Depending on your comfort level, you may want to have some semi nude or implied nude portraits taken for keepsakes. These types of shots are lingers sets, nude bra and panties, fitted t-shirts or oversized sweaters are great to bring along with you. If you are in doubt…bring it all. We will figure it out while in studio and what will photograph best.
Choose your Photographer Carefully…
Even if you follow all of these tips, hiring an experienced professional photographer is crucial to loving the outcome and experience of your maternity session. Trust and Connection are key. Find someone that makes you feel at peace from the start, someone that really listens to your concerns and wow’s you with their style and is reputable. Look at their reviews..see what people are saying!
A seasoned maternity photographer knows how to pose you, utilize lighting and can capture the most flattering images to document your pregnancy.
