What every expecting parent needs to know when choosing a Photographer
If you’ve booked a Maternity session with us or are thinking about doing so Congratulations and Welcome!
I wanted to share a little blurb with you today about the importance of choosing the right Photographer for you. Our community has an abundance of styles, businesses and various levels of Professionals. It’s important to keep these helpful tips in mind:
Make sure you love your photographer.
I am not talking about just loving their work , I am talking about loving their personality. Do your research, inquire about their reputation, brand, ethics and dive into their testimonials to make sure this is the right fit for you. During your session (maternity, baby and beyond) you will be with your photographer a lot. Sometimes in close proximity. Maternity sessions are intimate at times (think of wardrobe changes, adjusting details to be photo ready and of course there are things about our growing bodies that we aren’t quite comfortable with). All completely normal and I am here to help, and to help you feel comfortable in the process.
Baby sessions are beautiful and at times intimate too, mom, if you are still nursing I want you to know that my home studio is quiet, clean and cozy for you to do so. Relax, I’ve got you mom.
In short, regardless of the session you are coming into the studio for, know that you will end up with beautiful memories and gorgeous photographs for you and your family to love. But if I can leave you with one tip today…love your photographer ;) We LOVE what we do and pour a lot into making sure your experience is everything it should be.
Have a fantastic day and see you soon

Amalia's Maternity Session: Toronto Oshawa Maternity Photographer
When I first connected with Amalia she informed me she was looking to capture her 2nd pregnancy with her little family. She also wanted to incorporate a sentimental outfit. So of course I couldn’t wait to see what this was. Amalia and her family came in from the west end of Toronto. Although they call Italy home, and are fairly new to Canada they are fitting and adjusting perfectly!
See those adorable overalls? They came all the way from Italy and Amaila’s mother wore them when she was expecting her. I mean…how cute is that? I LOVE when clients bring in a little piece of them and items that are sentimental. Call me old fashioned but it’s little details like this that really make your session that much more memorable.
Thank you Amalia and family. We had so much fun with our session and I can’t wait to welcome you back into the studio in the near future. All the best with your sweet baby girl! We can’t wait to hear of her arrival. xo
Ashley's Maternity Session Glimpse
Our next Maternity Mama featured on the Blog is Ashely. She reached out months ahead of time so that she could get the timing just right. She nailed it and it was such an honour to meet her. A huge thank you for driving from Brampton to come into the studio too! Your laughter and confidence is infectious.
Thank you lovely for being a fresh of breath air after lockdown was lifted. Wishing you an amazing journey ahead into Motherhood with your little one. Hope to see you again in the near future.
Much love,

Tips for looking your best for your maternity session: Oshawa Maternity Photographer Petra King Photography
I often get asked a lot of questions outside of our FAQ’s on the website. You know that, it’s ok! I am here to help and guide you and offer my expertise and advice for a stress free experience. For so many women, pregnancy is a time where we feel our most beautiful, feminine selves, but we all want to make sure that we look and feel our best in our maternity portraits. Here are 5 tips to help you do just that.
Time it right…
Scheduling your maternity session in general I suggest anywhere between 28-34 weeks works well. Your belly will be full and you will still be comfortable enough to move. Should you be having multiples, scheduling a month prior is probably best.
Prep your hands…
Your hands will be photographed in as much detail as your belly during your maternity session. A fresh manicure in a neutral shade or just buffed, will help your images look more polished. If you are still wearing your wedding rings, make sure they are clean and sparkle. If swelling has forced you to remove them, don’t try to force them on for your session.
Professional Hair & Makeup…
I highly recommend using a professional hair and make up artist to prepare you for your session. The camera has a tendency to wash you out, so having an expert to add additional contouring, toning and lashes will help your face look flawless. Even if you don’t normally wear a lot of makeup, a light professional application can still give you a natural enhanced look.
For hair, we all know that our hair never looks better than straight from the salon!
We believe in Professional Hair & Makeup so much that we have partnered with our friends at Priceless Beauty to offer you a special discount for your maternity session!
Wardrobe is everything…
Don’t be afraid to show off your changing body! We offer an extensive selection of dresses ranging from SM-2XL for our clients to borrow for their sessions. Dresses that help highlight your bump, curves and flatter you in just the right areas. Depending on your comfort level, you may want to have some semi nude or implied nude portraits taken for keepsakes. These types of shots are lingers sets, nude bra and panties, fitted t-shirts or oversized sweaters are great to bring along with you. If you are in doubt…bring it all. We will figure it out while in studio and what will photograph best.
Choose your Photographer Carefully…
Even if you follow all of these tips, hiring an experienced professional photographer is crucial to loving the outcome and experience of your maternity session. Trust and Connection are key. Find someone that makes you feel at peace from the start, someone that really listens to your concerns and wow’s you with their style and is reputable. Look at their reviews..see what people are saying!
A seasoned maternity photographer knows how to pose you, utilize lighting and can capture the most flattering images to document your pregnancy.

Wow…who knew that 2020 was going to turn out like this right? All I can say is I hope you and your family are well and staying safe. What a state the world is in for us and such crazy times. Meanwhile, one of the things keeping me happy these days is YOU. Being able to work again and do what I love, to reconnect and celebrate your milestones is awesome.
We have been working to keep up with all our reschedules, and welcoming new clients and friends to the PKP family too. It’s been amazing. However…it’s left little time for blogging so I apologize for the gap :)
So let’s just jump right back into it shall we?

Meet Shannon!
Shannon and I met earlier this year when she came in for her pregnancy announcement portrait session with her whole family. You may remember it HERE. Such a beautiful, fun and innocence about that session that she shared with her son and hubby. We knew however, that we had to do another session just for mom!
For her maternity session we went with some more neutral soft floral accents. Shannon is stunning and the wardrobe we chose complimented her skin tones perfectly and showcased her feminine beautiful baby bump.
Motherhood is beautiful. YOU are beautiful mama…I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many of you amazing, inspiring women. It is such an honour and something that I am grateful to be able to do.
Being a mom of two I get it. Although mine are now teenagers you still don’t forget, empathize and are compassionate with all the things pregnancy brings. So when I say I get it…it’s because I know. During our consultations we get to know each other. The things you are concerned about, like, dislike…and releasing that trust in me to use my creativity and experience to create magical moments for you!
That alone is a big step!
Get to know your photographer. Do your research and most importantly resonate with them. When you are comfortable and allow yourself to enjoy the experience that is where the magic happens…
We can’t wait to meet you and pamper you and your beautiful baby bump! Feel free to contact the studio for inquiries and book your session.
