It's a Boy for Durham Balloons:Petra King Photography
Last month we had the pleasure of meeting the latest addition to Durham Balloons tribe. Congratulations to you Deverae and Clayton on your sweet SWEET little baby boy! We had so much fun photographing him.
World…meet Nathaniel.
I am always excited to meet my littlest clients for the first time. It’s one of the many perks I have doing the job I do. Meeting new people. Creating memories, documenting moments and building relationships. What an honour to be able to do this for my clients. Especially right from the start.
These tiny humans have a built in radar that they are totally aware of their surroundings when they are not home. And it’s pretty amazing to witness. Most parents are unaware and just think that it’s their child fighting sleep or being stubborn lol.
But I know otherwise lol. They take in everything. Listening to me as I talk to them. To comfort them and to hopefully capture their personality for mom and dad as best I can in the time frame we have together. This little guy although small…is mighty and bound for some pretty amazing things.
His proud big sister was right there too to help me and to get a few images of her own in there as well. Congrats mom and dad, big brothers and sisters…he is adorable and I can’t wait to watch him grow. Enjoy!

Trumpet sounds…doo do do doooooo lol…Fresh new kid on the block for this gorgeous sweet family!
Hey guys! Happy Thursday ;).
Okay…taking a moment to appreciate the little details in life like wrinkly baby fingers. Meet Harper! This sweet baby girl made her intro earth-side a few weeks ago and she brought in her big brother, and gorgeous mom and dad for her newborn session. I was so excited to do this shoot for my repeat client as the last time I saw her we did a Simply Motherhood event with her then 8 month old son.
We had a fun, busy time during our session. Throughout our session I always keep things moving forward. Especially when we have toddlers involved. I know as a parent that you have a small window to work with when it comes to attention and patience. I must comment and and say that these 2 parents handled things like pros. Balancing a newborn and a toddler is not easy. Trust me I have been there…( mine are 11 months apart HA!…more on what life was like then another time)
That said, you shift focus. Yes ultimately your goal is to capture this beautiful new babe (and we did) however you need to realize and remember that as a toddler this new dynamic and routine is something they have yet to embrace. You are bound to have a slew of emotions and roller coaster days.
Making “new” older brothers or sisters feel like they are part of this experience is key and so important too. We captured Mason (big brother) for a few minutes and he didn’t even realize that the monkey in my camera was really his own reflection ;)
See more in the gallery below…
Our family newborn sessions are always natural and baby led. The most common question I get asked is what does a typical newborn session look like? My response…is baby led. Every session is different, unique and authentic. While we have some ideas of what is important to be captured, telling your story through my eyes, interactions, the experience is always one of a kind.
Thank you for trusting me with your sweetest littles and as always…a wonderful honour and journey to walk these fleeting milestone moments with you!
Enjoy and till next time!

Simply Motherhood Sessions: Oshawa_Bowmanville_Toronto_Petra_King_Photography
Our 2nd Annual Mother’s Day Sessions were a success!! A HUGE thank you to all the mamas, gorgeous littles and siblings that behaved that day lol. I know all too well how stressful pictures can be. Let alone MOM stepping out in front of the camera to join in. But…our calm and bright enviornment in the studio usually helps with the moods of babies and children. Pair that with taking the time to allow them to warm up and the possibility of a “treat” at the end they are usually golden lol!
That all said…these sessions are always so much fun and full of emotion. It is also a time where we allow mom and babe/children to just be! To be completely relaxed, quiet and interact as they normally would at home. Cuddles, counting ribs to get them to giggle, kisses, etc etc. These are the moments that us mom’s adore! Even more so when that is reciprocated from their little one/s.
Here are a few sneak peaks from just some of our sessions that day. Enjoy…And OMG…would you look at those arrangements? GASP…seriously guys..the studio smelled amazing and looked stunning! All our mama’s took some BTS and we loved that they were sharing their experience too.
Once again, the ever talented Aspen Florist blows our clients experience out of the water. Thank you Lisa for all you do and for making our moms (and children) feel so special and loved!
We hope you and yours enjoyed a wonderful weekend and you were spoiled rotten! Here’s to another amazing year ahead!
If you’d like to celebrate. your loved ones just because…really do we need ONE day a year to do so? I think not lol. Contact the studio today and let’s plan your experience today! We promise you will LOVE yourself that you did.
You deserve this!
Till next time…

Ajax,Durham Region,GTA Portrait Photographer:: Being in Business
Let's see a show of "Likes" if you know someone who is a photographer? I think it's safe to assume that we all know someone who is correct? In this day in age, anyone can purchase a digital camera as seen "on sale" and adopt the term, yes I am a photographer. However as much as companies make it more and more accessible for the general public to do so, only a fraction of that actually makes the decision to further their knowledge and new found skill. This cannot be done overnight. One must build a solid portfolio before thinking of taking the next big step...starting a business. The same applies to flash websites and photography blogs. One must learn and practice before opening up shop.
In the last 5 years I've been in business, I've seen a huge influx of photography businesses arise. Most are as I started out to be myself, known as MWAC=mom with a camera. Bearing in mind we all need to start somewhere, the amount of photography websites and blogs are a bit mind boggling. It's grown overnight and out there online for all to see, while the subject of quality hangs in the balance. Sure we all grow. After 5 years of business I am still growing. For that I will always do! I am constantly looking to steer myself in new directions, challenge myself and grow stronger as a person not just a photographer. The demand for business IS there, this we know. But as a good friend recently expressed, the demand for quality is on the decline! WHY?
Why is it that one individual will chance the quality of photographer (A) vs photographer (B)? Style? Price? Location? Convenience? How is it that we are so picky when it comes to the food we serve at our table for our family, the kind of car we drive and the quality of living we work hard for? Yet when it comes to preserving the memories of the ones we love MOST, we are brainwashed into thinking that the lowest price is the best! This my friends, always comes back to kick us in the pants. Quality does matter! Very much so. It's not all about providing one with digital images on a CD for $100 ( session fee may or may not be included) because let's face it. Those that choose to purchase these packages are going to share them online to every family and friend they have and then tuck that CD away safely in the back drawer only to collect dust. These images will be forgotten or pulled out once every few years. Professional portraits and artwork lives and breathes on your walls. It's a daily reminder of just who you are. What you have been blessed with and are proud of!
Being in business is tough. There is no doubt about it. I've said it once before, that very few find a balance between home and work. This rings more truer for those that work from home. But I DO love what I do. I DO work my butt off into the wee hours of the night to strive and provide the best quality that you deserve. As do all professional photographers. It is up to you to do your research. Figure out what works best for you. Professional photography is not for everyone. It is an investment. That said, it is the BEST investment you can make. After all isn't what's important most to you your family and the memories you will make together?
I'll end with some food for thought...
The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer. ~Author Unknown
A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety. ~Ansel Adams
Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner. ~Author Unknown
Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera. — Yousuf Karsh
Which of the photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow. — Imogen Cunningham
My favorite: Be yourself, everyone else is taken. ~ Author Unknown
Thank you to all my clients both present and past. You are the reason why I work so hard. Just as you love your family, I LOVE mine. Time is special to all of us and sharing my talent with you to adorn for years to come is what matters most to me. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Love,
P
