Miss. Maisie came into the studio recently with her beautiful family to celebrate her 1st Birthday. I adore this sweet family and have loved watching and documenting them grow over the last few years.
Health and wellness has different meanings to everyone. But I will tell you that if I could go back to when my own children were this age I would have loved to save myself time and money knowing what I know now.

5 Tips for what to wear for Summer Family Sessions: Petra King Photography | Maternity + Baby + Wedding Photography
Summer feels like it has arrived early in the Durham Region. One of the most FAQ’s I get asked recently is any suggestions on what to wear? When it comes to selecting outfits for your children, opting for a neutral or soft pastels can help to create the timeless and cohesive look that enhances the beauty of your session
So I thought I’d share a little inspo for you with some tips to consider:
Start with a neutral base
Start by selecting a neutral base color for your child’s outfit. Cream, beige, light grey, and soft pastels provide a great canvas. A neutral base also allows you to add pops of colour, subtle patterns and textures without overwhelming the overall aesthetic of the photo.
Incorporate soft fabrics
Durham Region family summer photoshoot locations can take you to the beach, trails and family backyards. Prioritize comfort by choosing outfits made from soft and breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen, or lightweight knits that will also flow with your surroundings. Not only do these materials keep your children (and yourself) cool and comfortable in the heat of summer, but they also add a gentle and relaxed feel to the overall look of your portraits.
Mix & match textures

Mommy and Me Session: Oshawa Motherhood Photographer Petra King Photography
This adorable duo has been coming into the studio since Peyton was still in her mommy’s tummy. Hard to believe that 2 years have passed already. When we say time flies…that’s an understatement. What’s even crazier is to hear the chatter from my littles and see how their personality has evolved.
Peyton and mom came in to celebrate her 2nd bday. We did a cute session together that was busy, full of laughter and of course lots of love.
A few more tips when working with toddlers:
Go with the flow
Have things available to incorporate to keep them engaged
Learn your nursery rhymes
Wear comfortable clothing. You are going to be busy ;)
Mommy and Me sessions are always adorable and so sweet. Those in between moments are some of my favourite as well. Roll with it, enjoy it and remember that giving them time to adjust to new surroundings always pays off.

3 ways to work with toddlers: Oshawa Maternity & Family Photographer
Anxious mom and dad’s and busy littles is completely normal. When you come into the studio for your session I want you to know that you can trust in me and my expertise. After 18 years I have seen it all and the outcome is always the same thanks to a few things I do.
Concentrate on the family must have shots first
Make sure toddlers and littles are comfortable. Get on their level and include them into what you want them to do.
Convince them that there is a monkey in my camera who loves to eat chips! Haaa…
Sibling shots and family shots are often quick and silly. But these 3 things done at the beginning of your session will almost ALWAYS help to have a smooth and stress free session.
Also…bribery or an iPad come in REALLY handy so we can get shots like this :)
Next up we concentrate on mom. So Dad usually hangs out in studio or takes the littles out so it’s just the one on one time with mama.
And once mama is comfortable and can focus on herself….magic happenes
