Oh sweet Karlyn..how you captured our hearts.
Oh Hi! Meet Karlyn. Her sweet mama brought her into the studio to celebrate her 1st Birthday and boy was it ever a fun one.
Can we just take a moment to adore this gorgeous custom cake from Sweetery.ca. W e have worked with Danielle (baker extraordinaire) for the last 4 years. She is our go to for all our PKP and Aspen Little Sessions.
All natural ingredients. Custom made to order so you know it’s FRESH and tastes absolutely DELICIOUS.
Karlyn couldn’t wait to dive into this beautiful pumpkin cake.
Girl means business I tell ya lol.
Cake smash sessions in the studio are fun. We almost always start with some classic portraits first. I do this for 2 reasons:
To document your little one and their personality, newly learned skills and silliness
2. So you and your family have gorgeous classic and timeless portraits to add to your baby albums and to hang down through the generations.
Then we get to business. Cake sessions are a fun way to celebrate. In my experience, they either love it and dive right in…like sweet Miss. Karlyn, or they don’t. Babies who aren’t quite in love with cake, don’t like their hands getting dirty and while adorable to capture our sessions are baby led. When they have had enough, we stop shooting.

Ready for another adorable cake smash session?
Meet Paulina. When her gorgeous mama brought her into the studio for her session, my heart instantly melted. She was a little timid at first but quickly came around and put on a whole new level of her personality that had us both giggling.
Every single time…portraits such as these that are classic, clean and timeless speak to my soul. The innocence, simplicity and ok let’s face it…cute babies and chubby cheeks and piercing eyes. It’s as if they are wiser beyond their age right?
As with all of my cake smash sessions we concentrate on just baby before we dive into the cake. Below is a collection of Paulina. Enjoy…
Paulina’s cake was created from the ever talented Danielle at Sweetery.ca. The equally stunning blooms that adorned her cake are from our girl Lisa over at Aspen Florist. Did you know that you can add sweets or florals to ANY collection? Check out our vendors for more information and to see what packages you can add on!
Adding florals to cake smash sessions can elevate your session, but there are a few things you should be mindful of.
Work with a Professional Florist who listens to the clients needs and can create the right look and fit for the size of the cake.
A florist (like Aspen Florist) who is obsessed over details just as much you are
Can arrange and style blooms on the cake for you so that it’s done properly and not randomly placed.
To help ease with the stress of planning your baby’s First Birthday Milestone session we also include a baby wardrobe. By all means, please feel free to bring along an outfit that is sentimental to you if you’d like baby to be photographed in it beforehand.
Miss Paulina was oh so delicate and dainty and hardly made a dent in her cake lol but as the saying goes, it is better to be over prepared than not right?

Meet Abbie…
This cute little munchkin was in before back in December prior to our 2nd lockdown. She seriously lit up the studio with her smiles and made them outside world and troubles fade away. Even if for just that hour.
Abbie celebrated her 1st birthday with our favourite (and most popular) floral cake smash session. Danielle Petrik Sweetery & Aspen Florist did not disappoint. Once again blowing us all away with quality, luxury and details to swoon over. Abbie was in heaven. Sharing a little more from her session below.
Sweet right? When she wasn’t thoroughly enjoying her cake she was smiling and posing for the camera.So adorable.

Birthday Girl_Ramona turns one!
You have all followed along over the last year and a half as little Miss. Ramona grew. It all started back with her newborn session (prior to retirement) and we finished off her Baby Milestone package with a one year celebration.
Of course we went out in style with the most gorgeous fresh florals from Aspen Florist too! Did you even have to question that? ;)
I mean these gorgeous colours and that decadent cake right? The studio smelled heavenly with this perfect combination. All our cakes are provided by Sweetery.ca. Each cake is handmade with love from all natural ingredients and the most incredible detail for you and your little one.
Allow me to point out the hilarity of this session. Does your little one hate having dirty hands? One of mine did and one did not. See if you can spot the icing flick off the hands? Once she got the hang of things and realized it was yummy she went to town. We ended the session just 2 frames after she went knee deep in her cake. LOL…The BEST ever!
We mss you Ramona and can’t wait to welcome you back into the studio for your next session. Till then, keep on enjoying life and making us smile. We are forever grateful for you and have been so honoured to document you over the years. Thank you for being a part of the PKP Aspen Little Family.
A First Birthday Beauty
First Birthday’s in the studio are so much fun! Whether you are new to the studio or have been with us on a PKP journey I welcome you!
Meet Laila! She came into the studio last fall to celebrate the big O-N-E! And man oh man did we have fun with her.
Here are a few of my favourites from our session…
She got right into it…in fact we have some shots of her with icing everywhere and a raspberry stained dress lol (don’t worry I sprayed it for mom before she left)
She clearly LOVED every minute of it and couldn’t wait to dive right in. No wonder with this beautiful cake from Sweetery.ca!

Oh Rosie…
I often wonder when babies come into the studio with mom what goes through their little minds. You too? I mean some of the expressions they give you are priceless.
Rosie’s 1st Birthday Portraits
See what I mean? This expression though…lol
My cake smash sessions always start with some classic portraits. I do this for 2 reasons:
Mom and Dad get to cherish some timeless professional portraits before we jump into the cake fun.
This gives baby time to “warm” up with me, and become get familiar with new surroundings.
Sweet sweet Rosie was a gem to photograph and absolutely loved hanging out in the studio. She played with some toys and loved playing peek a boo too.
Gorgeous cake provided by Sweetery.ca and the best in florals from Aspen Florist.
Rosie had an awesome time. Brief tears as all. We loved having her celebrate with us in studio and we can’t wait to do the same for you!
