3 Tips for Outdoor Family Sessions: Whitby Durham Region Autumn Photoshoot
I completely get it when I hear my clients say that they want an updated Family session but are nervous about all the “what if’s”. I can say this you see because we had our own family session this past Fall and I ran through all the emotions in my head too.
That was until I stopped myself and said, P…just do what you tell your clients to do. Breathe. have fun and Trust in your photographer.
It’s that simple. Just be, have fun and the rest (with some fgentle guidance) will fall into place.
The results…well smiles like this speak for themselves.
Looking forward to another fabulous and stunning Fall with you.
Till next time,
P xo

Happy New Year! Oshawa Durham Region Baby Family Photography
Hello hello!
Christmas break is officially over and while most are back to work/school today, I am sure there are a lot of mama's who will agree that the extra peace and quiet has been nice ;). We had an amazing Holiday season and I hope you and your family did too!
Speaking of family…do you and your family have any traditions? Send me a DM or comment below and let me know what they are. I’d love to learn more about you. I am always intrigued and curious to hear what other cultures love, do and look forward to once a year.
My family has some traditions that we look forward to all year round. My side of the family is from Barbados/Guyana and my husband’s is Scotland. Quite the mix I know but it certainly makes for some interesting meals/traditions. ;) If you have been follow me over on Instagram you’ll have seen I posted our Christmas morning breakfast in my stories. I know it’s not for everyone, but for me it’s so nostalgic and important to carry on traditions with my family. We have a few dishes we eat on Christmas morning and over the whole of the Christmas holiday. But one in particular we love is called Garlic Pork. It is a Guyanese dish that was introduced to Guyana from Portuguese settlers. We enjoy Garlic Pork (beef and pork) with Scotch Bonnet peppers and let it marinate for 6 days before Christmas. If it peaks your interest, you can find a recipe here.
Would you try it? Are you adventurous when it comes to trying different foods/ingredients from around the world? I am. I love it. Growing up, we loved trying different things both in our community and abroad. It’s important for me to live a life with variety, flavour and experiences.
Ok..now I’m hungry lol
And on that note I am off to make dinner :)
Wishing you a wonderful evening ahead. Wishing you health, prosperity and love for the coming year ahead. I have so much in store for you for 2023, I can’t wait to share it all with you and your families mama.
Much love,
Petra
Sun Flares and Family: Petrik Family Glimpse
Family is everything….
This beautiful family I have the honour of calling mine. Meet my sister Danielle and her husband Andrei. Danielle is the talented owner of Danielle Petrik Sweetery. If you have yet to enjoy her baked goods and ridiculously addictive sugar cookies you got to hit her up for some. ;)
Danielle is no stranger to the PKP Family. She has been baking for years for all of our Studio Milestone sessions and events.
Her crazy fun and gorgeous girls and I had a lot of fun during our shoot. I think mom and dad did too…. We missed one, my nephew was unable to make it but we will make a point of doing this again for 2022. It is LONG overdue.
Crazy how I document hundreds of families and milestones but when it comes to my own, I always seem to miss the boat with timing. This year we have made it our priority. So stay tuned.
Family sessions are little adventures. Often times mom and dad are stressing. It’s natural I get it, you spend a lot of time planning, purchasing new outfits, investing in your photography session. Trust the process. Trust your photographer, be yourself and enjoy the moment. All will come together. This I promise you.
Your portraits although skillfully documented with gentle guidance are loved and cherished when you are have fun.
Thank you Danielle & Andrei for allowing me to capture your beautiful family and share in the memories that I will hold near and dear for a lifetime.
Much love,
Petra
Torres-Hu Family: Fall Session Glimpse
Currently struggling (sips tea) stares out window, at page lol. Sometimes you don’t need a lot of words to share, show what your blog entry is all about.
So…
I’d like to introduce the next amazing family (also my sweet neighbours) to you all. Lorraine is a talented, busy mom of 3 and fellow Business Woman. Lorraine and Ty reached out last year for a Fall Family Session. The vision, expressions and golden glow was perfect. Check out some of their session below and let me know what you think.
The most gorgeous children. Individual portraits are a must during a Family session. Loved how these came out.
And yes, I am a sucker for a rich black and white.
Enjoy!

the ever funny Jaxon…
the quiet and handsome big brother Andre
Thank you L & T for the honour of documenting your sweet family this past Fall. Love you guys dearly and you killed your session flawlessly. Enjoy your gorgeous portraits!

Baby Paxton
This sweet little boy came into the studio with mom and dad after we were unable to have our maternity session done on multiple dates. But as the saying goes, things happen for a reason. For this beautiful mama and her boys, it was such an emotional session.
Absolutely love this image of Paxton and Daddy…
Earlier that year Paxton lost his grandfather suddenly and like any loss in the family, it hits you hard. So in honour of him, we dedicated this session in his memory and I know he would have been so touched and proud.
As your family grows, we remember. We celebrate life. As it is right now, and for those that have gone before us. Document these memories with gorgeous portraits that your own family can cherish and pass down from generations to come.
I mean…just look at this little face. How cool will it be for his OWN children to see him at this stage?
Thank you D & C for celebrating and remembering Grandpa. I know he is looking down from heaven with adoration and pride.
