3 Ways Lavender helps Motherhood with sleep : Oshawa Brighton Newborn Family Photography

Before I get started with this entry our family grew a little bigger on my husband’s side with this adorable little girl. Welcome Georgia! It was an honour to document you, mommy and daddy!

One of the top struggles that EVERY mom will go through when you welcome a new baby into your life is exhaustion. Let’s face it, lack of sleep in your 20’s was “I’ll sleep when I’m dead right?” and then you have a baby and it’s like an 18 wheeler reverses over you. But seriously, if you’ve just had a baby…a HUGE Congratulations! And if you aren’t feeling exhuasted already…well don’t worry it’s coming lol. That’s not to scare you but I am keeping it real. Our bodies have just gone through a physical and emotional roller coaster, so add little to no sleep is a recipe for depression and or PPD if you don’t take care of yourself. Been there mom. I went through depression which resulted in meds. If I am being honest I HATED IT.

Looking back, I wish I had the knowledge and community support from other mom’s (that were just like myself) that I do today. Having a strong support team to help you in times of need, to share stories with, laugh, cry, get out for coffee and playdates, share what works and what doesn’t is oh so important. I also wish that back then I knew of a more natural/holistic way to help with sleep rather than resorting to medication. Don’t get me wrong, I know that in some cases medication is needed. Today however, there are alternative ways we can support our bodies holistically. I share about what I love, what has worked not just for me but my clients as well. Lavender Essential Oil. Or..The Swiss Army of Oils as it’s coined in the Low Tox Living world has been such a game changer for Sleep for not just you mom but for your babies too.

You’ve probably heard that Lavender calms and relaxes you. That it has sedative properties that help support your sleep too but did you also know that if you rub lavender oil onto your big toes each night before bed. That it will help you sleep better? The big toe is the reflex point for our pineal gland which is responsible for secreting melatonin. Fun fact right?

One thing to note about Young Living’s Essential Oils is that they are therapeutic grade oils. Which means that they are the purest you can get. We have farms all over the world which is so phenomenal.

In fact we have a Seed to Seal Promise. Which means, from start to finish, we take our sourcing, science and standards seriously to ensure you get meticulously made, potent essential oils and products that can replace harsh chemicals in your day-to-day life. Even more reason for you not to purchase grocery/mall oils.

Lavender helps to create a good sleep schedule for you and your baby. Here’s 3 ways to do so:

  1. Start your Diffuser 30 min before bedtime by adding 3-4 drops of YL Lavender. That way your room/nursery will have a beautiful calm scent that prepares you and your newborn for bed and rest.

  2. You can apply Lavender topically ie: your wrists, chest, feet, big toes, temples, spine etc. Any Vita Flex point helps.

  3. YL Lavender is also safe for your baby. Using our Dilution ration chart, use a carrier oil and add 1 drop of Lavender for every 5 drops of carrier oil. Massage onto babies feet, back and body. Use to help calm and soothe for sleep/upset baby. Happy baby, happy mama right?

The newborn stage of Motherhood is short but nonetheless exhausting. Finding a natural way to support and soothe both mom, dad and baby is like icing on the cake. Enjoy this stage and I encourage you to lean into Lavender and how it can help support you and your family.

So all that being said, maybe you’ve heard about Young Living from a girlfriend or neighbour. Maybe you are struggling right now or curious about Young Living and how it can help you. Maybe you are like me, and you just needed something to help because you were tired of being tired. Grab a bottle and a Diffuser (beautiful ones to choose from and ones that are included in a bundle or sold separately ) if you need one too!
